Gallery Walk Friday Oct. 5th

BlueStudioGallery joins the BEAD District and Gallery Walk Group this Friday, October 5th with its current showcase of Fine Art prints from renowned Photographer Tom Casalini's Private Collection, as well as two feature presentations of collaborator Dale Gardner/DuBarge Studios' Interactive Digital Media, on view  Fridays in October at Blue from 6pm to 10pm. Together, the installations show how technology and art can provide the experience of both mesmerizing interactive art and utilitarian entertainment convenience.

Outside @ Blue Studio Gallery (westbound-4th and College) Stop Light Theater is a public video art installation that can be  seen by motorists stopped westbound at the corner of 4th and College in downtown Bloomington. Short movie clips are synchronized to the traffic light at the intersection, and presented  in Blue's large upstairs window to stopped drivers until the light turns green. Pedestrians walking south on College can enjoy the show for as long as they like! Stop Light Theater will be shown after dark weekends through Oct. beginning with Gallery Walk the 5th.

Upstairs: Modern Surrealist Art Generator is an interactive video installation
that creates real-time generative art from the colors and motions of
the participants. As participants move in and out of the camera's
view, abstract forms are inserted across the video 'canvas.' The
generator's output produces an ever changing video painting reminiscent
of floating shapes of Salvador Dali and the linear lines and colors of
Gerhard Richter and Mark Rothko.

Get a look at Dale's Stop Light Movies in the South window, streetside at 4th and College, and join in this Interactive Media Installation upstairs at BlueStudioGallery, 116.5 S. College Avenue, Suite #10, on October 5th from 6:00-10:00 pm. Enter the green door to the left of The Chocolate Emporium.

World Class Performances at Blue!

September~First Friday

Poet Shana Ritter  and Harpist Amanda Jensen!

Amanda brought her great big incredibly beautiful 1935 harp, (That's real gold on it!) it took four of us to wrestle it gently up the stairs! (Thanks to Al Jarvis and Rob Westcott, BTW) And we were transfixed, transported to what one listener described as an entree into Bach's chamber! We discovered that music sounds really excellent in here at the BlueStudioGallery- the shape of the room, the acoustic tiles on the ceiling, the smooth floors and lovely blue color tone that you can almost hear. All of this contrives to create a vibrancy that is alive and intent on pervading even the most stubborn of moments between ears and hearts.  Ear is of course, the very center, the punctum, of the word heart, as well as beginning with the directive, Hear!!  The art of hearing is the true subject of the heart!
We were enraptured! Amanda promised to return and grace us with another of her beautiful instruments, a smaller Baroque Harp!

Both performances were stellar, with Shana reading from her recent publication,  Stairs of Separation,
from Finishing Line Press in Georgetown Kentucky, a grant-funded project to create a collection of poetry about her family's immigration to America, her heritage, and in particular, her vision of her mother's heart. We were stirred by the integrity of phrases that formed pictures in our minds of both her mother's experience and the poet's lens through which we were given the opportunity to glimpse a personal world heretofore unknown to us. Here's a tiny peek at Shana's poetry- hopefully, she will return and read to us again!

"Not much else would she say. The tumult of New York must have washed it away, leaving anything from before lingering, a faint scent, a box left wrapped and tied."
excerpt: Memory , p. 13
from Stairs of Separation

Catching Up

During the winter, a few important goals were accomplished at Blue Studio, namely, bringing the Gallery into focus with the second show, featuring the Encaustic paintings of Zionsville's Lisa Bick, which opened on the tenth of February. Lisa's work will remain available at Blue until the end of March, and there will be one more Mixer/Art Party before the exhibit leaves Bloomington. The Gallery looks beautiful and smells like beeswax!  You can stop in (Tues-Sat/12-6) and check it out! BlueStudioGallery uses security assured Propay online, and accepts Visa/Mastercard, as well as cash or local checks.

Also, the blog is taking shape, with pages and categories to peruse and view pictures of samples. To keep track of updates on art and events, you can sign up to follow!

Blue has joined Local First, a community organization that encourages Bloomington's small business owners with support and networking, and provides a list of members to help the community at large Shop Local. You'll see a little sign in the door..

Connecting with Bloom magazine bore fruit in the form of participation in the first annual local artist showcase, which took place at the convention center on the 25th of February and was well attended. Blue Studio appeared in miniature, with its showpiece upcycled Showers Bros. cabinet, and tables made from hundred year old mahogany panels stripped off our old piano! I featured some custom art boxes, and vintage postcards, as well as a personalized wedding painting. Felt happy about the public exchange of my own poetry and art!

While at the event, I met Sarah Pearce and Marcie Neiditz, two lovely women who extended an invitation to participate in the Visual Artist's Guild Open Studios tour this June. This event will coincide with Gallery Walk and is intended to become an annual occasion. Blue plans to represent.

Lastly, the 2012 Spring  Collection arrived from Stella and Dot, and the new jewelry is sleek and chic! Come on up and take a peek at some samples, or book a party at home (or at Blue!) for you and your friends. You will love shopping this trend forward line of high quality, Luxe Couture Jewelry in an exclusive and personal environment, only available through qualified independents.
